Dwell Studio

Waiting for me yesterday when I got home from work was the new Dwell Studio catalog. Since my husband was out of town last night and I wasn't able to curl up next to him - this was a pretty fun substitute. Dwell's baby line is of utmost interest to me right now since I'm, well...9 months pregnant. The line never fails to impress me with their adventurous patterns that are both aesthetically pleasing and hip. I'm all for "sweet" baby products - but Christiane mixes fresh and vibrant shapes and colors...making nursery decor, baby clothing & accesories modern, hip and just plain cool.

more from my crafty friend...

before: antique bench from clovis country club in new mexico where her mom grew up.

after: oh-so-chic entry way bench covered in anna maria horner fabric.

thrilled about...

my super-sized pentagram typography calendar i ordered from veer - i can finally say good bye to the days of not knowing which weekend is coming up...not that our social calendar is that difficult to keep up with at 8 1/2 months pregnant. But, seeing as though there is no calendar to be found in our home, this little gem will be a warm welcome! hoping it will look cool hanging above my little make-shift desk area. i'm going to be so organized as a mom. (i wish that last statement were actually true.)

splendor on the wall

my crafty friend - she pulls off diy home projects with impressive ease.  creative and bold, she loves challenging herself with a never-done-before design experiement just as much as i do.

not too long ago she was given a huge antique frame and immediately knew she could turn it into something great. with a little help from etsy, black lacquer, green paint and her own creative mind - she's put up a diy masterpiece in her stairway!

little bean

spring has arrived at little bean! i'm coming to realize that unique and cool baby boy clothing is much harder to find than baby girl clothing. thank you, little bean, for giving me independent designers with hard-to-find pieces i won't see on any other little ones (unless their moms frequent your shop, of course.)

*kit & lili apple romper shown.

thrilled about...

my organic owl storage bin i got for the nursery! i've registered for a matching navy & turquoise elephant bin as well. hopefully owl gets ellie as a playmate. these functional, practical (good descriptive words for the hubby) and oh-so-fun & hip bins are available at baby bliss.

nursery art project

i saw this art featured on jessica mcintyre interior's design blog and wanted it immediately. jessica mentioned hanging the art in a child's room or nursery. this sounded very sweet to me - i immediately began thinking about how i'd pay for it (it was a wee bit out of my price range given everything i'd already purchased for the nursery). then i had a (rare) moment of creativity and wondered if i could re-create something similar to this myself! realizing i wouldn't be able to find reclaimed wood like the piece used in the photo, i had to make some alterations. it pales in comparrison to the piece that inspired me - but it does make me happy knowing it's my own little art project made especially for the new love of my life.
having married into an italian family, i thought it might be fun to take the phrase and translate it into italian. i took only the phrase "you make me happy when skies are gray" and ordered a stencil of it from just stencils. i chose orange and white to accent the colors i'm using in the room. i plan on trimming the white space down a bit and framing it. below is a picture of our semi-finished nursery - the art is hanging in the far right hand corner. more pictures to come soon!

before and after

here are some pics from a recent project. i found this old, beat up chair at my favorite flea market, rink, in oklahoma city. rink is an old, abandoned roller skating rink that is filled to the brim with treasures of all sorts ...lots of mid-century modern, which i love! if you are ever in okc, you must go!

sausage + puff pastry = delight

this is the next adventure i plan to have in the kitchen. austrailian sausage rolls with one ingredient added by me...cheese. combine sausage with anything and i'm usually going to jump at it...add cheese and you had me at helllooooooo cheese. i'll be sure to post the results (and maybe take pics of our kitchen in distress) once i've attempted this recipe. my mouth is already watering. click here for the full recipe.
