Hey, Bert...

Four years ago tonight was the best night of my life...with the exception of the night Little Mister was born.

September 22, 2007 was the day I became the Mrs. to my Mr.

Happy Anniversary, Mr. We go together like Bert and Ernie.

No really.

You're Bert. I'm Ernie.

Deals from Durbin today on Joss & Main

Venti Cup's Joss & Main Curator's Collection Starts Today!

Franki Durbin, Dallas dweller and owner of Franki Durbin Designs,  is featured on Joss & Main's Curator Collection today. The theme? Livable Glamour. The look? Luxurious, effortless, elegant, and classically stylish.

Download on Durbin
Founder of Life in a Venti Cup, and little sister site, Life in a Sippy Cup, Durbin gives style minded parents, like herself, better options for growing families. The arrival of her daughter opened her eyes to a serious lack of luxe, livable and stylish spaces for little ones. She's focused on this niche ever since...and as a mom, I say, "Thank you, Franki!"

Back me up here, moms. If I see one more teddy bear/puppy dog/pretty princess - or character from {insert pre-school show here} themed-decor, I might cry. And that's why I want to give Durbin a high-five.

Check out her favorite Joss & Main pieces today!

worth a thousand words...

...especially when the picture is of your loved ones. My dear friend, Emily, over at Recently, has, well...recently taken up the hobby of photography. And she's rocking it. I'm asking her to name her price for our next family photos. And since she's one of the best friends a girl could have, she might just tell me it's on the house. But I will insist. Her work has just as much quality (if not more) than a lot of the high dollar photographers in Dallas. And when you see her work below, don't let the handsome little smiles and sweet faces fool you. Sure she has good subjects to shoot - two little boys with smiles that could light up a room, let alone a photograph. But Emily has an artistic eye and captures life with her little ones exquisitely.

So, without further adieu...

that 70's series

Free-spirited, gypsy style. I've always loved it. And I'm tickled pink it's one of the top looks for fall.

Why is it that I'm so fascinated by the 70's? Maybe it's because I secretly want to feather out my layers like Farrah Fawcett. Or perhaps it's because...if given the choice to own any single wardrobe from that decade...I would choose my mother's.  (Photos to come. Although she would never admit it, she was the epitome of style for her time...)

I think it's a combination of both mixed with the fact that I'm just a little bit gypsy at heart. Regardless, I'll be wearing my poncho, bell bottom, fringe, boho, floppy hat, tailored trench look delightfully this fall.

Then and now.

Inspired by Pinterest

I'm no artist. But I love projects. This past week my project was messy and I loved every minute of it. Inspired by Pinterest, I gave this crayola craft-time creation my very best. Do I like still like the photo on pinterest better? Yes. But am I giddy with pride that I tried it and (sort of) pulled it off...you bet.

I love color. In fact, I love it so much that I find myself putting more and more brightly colored decor around my home. Jonathan Adler tells me it's okay to be bold.

I flip through home interior magazines and adore the photos of neutrals and soft, subtle pops of color. But what do I find myself actually decorating my home with? Whites and brights. Maybe one day my living room will look less like an elementary school art class and more Jan Showers...but for now...I'm having fun being bold.

Note: Several items were damaged during the production of this artwork, including one casualty of a trusted friend, my glue gun.

big, brown eyes...

I couldn't help myself. I had to have a post exclusively about Little Mister.

A couple days away and time for myself is necessary, I realize. And don't get me wrong, I've loved every second of sitting waist-deep in the river with a cold beer in my hand, good company around me and old country music playing in the background. But I also have moments where suddenly I think of him and those big, brown eyes...
and I just want to squeeze him.

Incredibly grateful for my Labor Day weekend. But I'm anxious to get my hands on this kid.

take me to the river

I plan on laboring as little as possible this Labor Day weekend. Max is going to Mimi & Papa's house for some TLC, hide-and-go-seek...and more than likely, McDonald's and donuts. I will be headed to the river for three days of sun, fun and some Sooner football at Chili's on Saturday. Yes. Chili's. It's a small town.

What will you be doing this Labor Day weekend? Wherever the road may take you, safe travels and good times to you!
